Critical Care Program

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Critical Care Program services 5 critical care units at 3 Winnipeg hospitals. The program enjoys a close affiliation with the University of Manitoba’s teaching programs in Nursing, Medicine and a variety of other professional disciplines.

Each unit consists of a multidisciplinary collaborative team of nurses, doctors, pharmacists, respiratory therapist, dieticians, physiotherapists and support staff with critical care expertise providing 24-hour care for the patients in Adult Critical Care.

We have four Intensive Care Units within two tertiary hospitals (Shared Health/Health Sciences Centre, St. Boniface Hospital) and a community hospital ICU (Grace Hospital). There are separate Medical, Surgical/Trauma and Intermediate Care ICUs at Health Sciences Centre and a mixed Medical-Surgical ICU at St. Boniface Hospital. The Intensive Care Units within the city possess advanced support capability including invasive mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement therapy and Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Approximately 5565 patients are admitted to our ICUs annually.
