![]() Manitobans have decided that images of Manitoba's wildflowers will grace the halls and rooms of Winnipeg's new Women's hospital when it opens in 2014 on the HSC campus. In an online survey conducted by the Winnipeg Health Region earlier this year, more than 900 Manitobans logged on to vote for one of two design concepts, based on the themes of wildflowers or blankets. While both designs received positive feedback about reflecting the healing and hopeful environment women and their families desire in the new hospital, 72% preferred the wildflower concept. On March 24, WRHA President & CEO Arlene Wilgosh announced the results during a media event marking the start of the deconstruction of the old Weston Bakery on the site of the new hospital. This was Ms. Wilgosh's first public event since joining the Winnipeg Health Region on March 22. "The design concept for the Women's Hospital has ultimately been driven by the people of Manitoba," said Ms. Wilgosh. "Overwhelmingly they preferred the wildflowers." WRHA Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Lori Lamont said getting the public's input continues to be an important part of the development process for the project. "The public's comments helped ensure we were heading in the right direction, creating a facility that reflected a culture of hope and a connection to healing and nature. Many people also felt it was reflective of Manitoba." Thanks to all who participated in this survey. Your valuable feedback into this important and exciting project is sincerely appreciated! Please note: These concepts are interior design concepts and not colour schemes. The public will have more opportunities to see the exact material and colours that will be used on each floor as the interior design development progresses.
