Spinal Microsurgery

Spinal microsurgery has a long tradition of excellence in the University of Manitoba. Microlumbar discectomies and laminectomies in the use of operating microscope to conduct cervical surgery are long-standing adjuncts to the surgical armory. The recent acquisition of several state of the art surgical microscopes, in combination with a minimally invasive surgical philosophy has permitted a development of entirely novel group of operative procedures with considerably shortened patient stays and improved outcomes.

Lumbar discectomy is provided on an entirely day stay hospital basis. The utilization of advanced microsurgical techniques and instrumentation has greatly facilitated this.
