Brain Tumours

The Neuro-Oncology program at Children's Hospital is a multidisciplinary team staffed by pediatric oncologists, neuroradiologists and radiation oncologists, in addition to pediatric neurosurgery. All cases of brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerve tumours are discussed, and a management plan decided on at our weekly Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Tumour Board. Team members are active participants in the Children's Oncology Group; an international co-operative group that develops and coordinates pediatric cancer clinical trails at all major universities and teaching hospitals in the United States and Canada.

Pediatric brain tumours differ dramatically from adult brain tumours in location, outcome and type. Common pediatric brain tumours include juvenile pilocytic astrocytomas, medulloblastomas and ependymomas.
