Jason Beiko
M.D., Ph.D.
Jason Beiko was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He attended the
University of Winnipeg where he completed a BA(Hons.) degree in psychology.
An interest in learning and memory lead him to pursue graduate work at
the University of Western Ontario. While working in Peter Cain's laboratory
he obtained a MSc. for his work in developing a biochemical model of
Alzheimer's disease and a PhD. for his work on the electrophysiological
basis of learning and memory. Dr. Beiko received his MD from the University of Ottawa prior to returning to Winnipeg to start a neurosurgical residency at the U of M.
Dr. Beiko is currently the chief resident. He maintains a special interest in both pediatric and general neurosurgery. He is currently researching the effectiveness of gamma-knife radiosurgery and microvascular decompression in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia.
During his prolonged university course he was
employed as
a navigating officer
in the Canadian Naval Reserve. He maintains an active interest in computer
technology
and website design. He is also an avid sports fan and plays golf and
hockey whenever possible.
