Overview - What Former Residents Have to Say
The size and diversity of the Winnipeg Region and the active involvement of WRHA pharmacists in professional organizations provides tremendous opportunity for residents to engage in additional activities during their residency year. In addition to program requirements, past residents have:
- Visited other residency programs or health regions
- Prepared and presented an abstract and poster presentation at a local or regional conference
- Prepared adverse drug reaction reports for publication and/or submission to Health Canada
- Prepared application materials for a Special Access Drug
- Prepared or reviewed all or a portion of a Formulary Submission
- Assisted with drug policy initiatives at the regional or provincial level
- Participated as a member of the Pharmacy Program at recruitment fairs
- Participated in public service activities (e.g., public school education programs; seniors health initiatives, influenza vaccination blitz)
- Served as primary or secondary preceptor to undergraduate pharmacy students
- Precepted pharmacists visiting from other countries
- Made verbal presentations to patient support groups
- Attended and/or served as a panelist at local pharmacy meetings
- Served on the Host Committee for a CSHP Meeting
- Provided support for CSHP Executive and Council Members at events held in Winnipeg
- Attended continuing education lectures and computer training courses
- Participated in professional awards programs
- Assisted with development of research grant proposals
