St. Boniface General Hospital Pharmacy Services
Pharmacists use a decentralized, integrated clinical-distributive practice model to deliver care at this 554-bed tertiary care hospital. Decentralized pharmacists provide direct patient care to inpatients in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Mental Health, Cardiology, and Critical Care. There are also opportunities to provide direct patient care to ambulatory patients associated with the Manitoba Community Parenteral Therapy Program and Provincial Dialysis Program (hemodialysis and chronic peritoneal dialysis). There is an active drug pharmacokinetic monitoring program in place.
Pharmacy technicians aid delivery of pharmaceutical care through support of the computerized (RxTFC / BDM), automated unit-dose (Pyxis) drug distribution system. Pharmacy technicians also support the centralized IV admixture service, TPN and oncology admixture services, investigational drug services, pharmacy purchasing, wardstock, and inventory control systems. Technician checker programs are active at this site.
The respect, caring and stewardship central to the hospital’s mission are evident in the friendly, supportive and collaborative work/learning environment offered by Pharmacy Services, St. Boniface General Hospital. The pharmacy is open every day, days and evenings.
