St. Boniface Hospital Pharmacy Services

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and assistants use a decentralized, integrated clinical- distributive practice model to deliver care at this 554-bed tertiary care hospital. Utilizing the technology of an electronic patient record (including computerized physician order entry) that fully interfaces with pharmacy IT systems, decentralized pharmacists provide direct patient care to inpatients in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and the Emergency Department. There are also opportunities to provide direct patient care to ambulatory patients attending various Cardiology clinics and those associated with the Manitoba Renal Program.

Pharmacy teams comprised of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians/assistants provide comprehensive clinical-distributive service to patients in the adult and neonatal critical care units from 2 pharmacy satellites.

Pharmacy technicians and assistants participate in the provision of safe and optimal medication therapy through support of the computerized (BDM)automated unit-dose (Pyxis) drug distribution system. They also support the centralized IV admixture service,TPN and oncology admixture services, investigational drug services, pharmacy purchasing, wardstock, and inventory control systems.

The hospital’s mission to embrace tradition, innovation and inspiration is evident in the friendly, supportive and collaborative work/learning environment offered by Pharmacy Services. The pharmacy is open days and evenings daily.
