Feeding Baby 0-6 months

Breast milk is the only food or drink your baby needs for the first 6 months of life. Breast milk is the perfect balance of nutrition and hydration and boosts the immune system to help your baby grow up healthy. A breastfed baby should be given daily vitamin D drops - ask your health care provider or dietitian if you have questions.

If your baby is not breastfed or partially breastfed it is important to choose an infant formula with iron.  Iron is an important mineral for proper growth and healthy brain development. Learn how to safely prepare and store infant formula for your baby in this brochure:

Infant Formula with added iron

Babies have small tummies so it is normal for them to feed often -  8-12 times a day. Learn to respond to your baby’s feeding cues for guidance in how much and how often to feed.

If you have any concerns about your baby, including what to feed them  or their growth, contact your public health nurse.
