Kim Serfas, BSc(Hons), MSc, CCGC

Kim Serfas has been the genetic counsellor working in the Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) Clinic since its inception in 1999. The HBOC Clinic initially was situated in the WRHA Breast Health Centre at 400 Taché Ave., but in 2006, it moved to the Health Sciences Centre to become part of the Program of Genetics and Metabolism. Prior to 1999, Kim worked for the Hereditary Colon Cancer Program in Ottawa, ON. Kim received a Master of Science in Medical Genetics from the University of Manitoba and was certified in Genetic Counselling by the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors in 2004. She has a special interest in cancer genetics and is a member of a hereditary cancer working group. In 2010, she was cross-appointed to the University of Manitoba as a Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry & Medical Genetics, Faculty of Medicine. She is actively involved in the teaching and clinical supervision of medical residents, genetic counselling students and other medical trainees. She also enjoys participating in professional and public education.
