The Winnipeg Critical Care Nursing Education Program (WCCNEP) is open to all eligible Manitoba or out -of -province nurses, whether you currently work in critical care or not. Exciting career opportunity to expand your knowledge and skill set.

Earn While You Learn

You will earn a full time salary according to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority nurse salary scale and be guaranteed employment following successful completion of the program.  

The WCCNEP is a 24 week training program that offers you an opportunity to study the most up-to-date and technologically advanced methods of treating critically ill patients in medical, surgical, intermediate, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. Using the newest equipment available, this dynamic program takes place in a highly supportive, buddied learning environment that allows for the successful integration of practice and education in the constantly evolving arena of critical care.

You will learn critical care concepts, theories and lab skills in a supportive atmosphere and apply in-depth assessment and critical thinking skills during your clinical experiences which will enable you to provide high quality care to critically ill patients.

WCCNEP Rhythm Course (pre-requisite for the WCCNEP)

OPEN to ALL Nurses who are enrolled in the WCCNEP, Advanced Assessment or who work in clinical units/areas that require cardiac rhythm analysis. Other clinical nurses interested in gaining rhythm analysis knowledge and skills as part of their career planning can apply for available open spots.   

The rhythm course is composed of six rhythm classes scheduled one morning a week, five x four-hour classes from 0830 to 1230 hours and the last week is the test from 0800 to 1030.

Successful Completion requires the following to receive a certificate of completion:

  • Rhythm Analysis Test (80% required)
  • Rhythm Theory Test (65% required)

  • Purchase calipers and the Textbook:   Huff, Jane. (2017). ECG workout: Exercises in arrhythmia interpretation (7th ed). Philadelphia: Lippincott. (ISBN#9781469899817)
  • Pick up the notes for the Rhythm Course provided on a USB stick. 


  • Enrolled in WCCNEP / Require rhythm analysis for area of work:  $15.00
  • All others:  $50.00
