Cognition Toolkit

The cognition toolkit workgroup convened in September 2009 to develop resources for occupational therapists to further guide their practice in the area of cognitive assessments and assist them to increase interprofessional colleagues’ knowledge of OT roles, responsibilities and competencies in cognitive assessments and interventions. Local experience suggested that despite a high prevalence of cognitive impairment across the age span, utilization of occupational therapy (OT) expertise in cognitive assessments and interventions remains low in some sectors of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA).

. The Cognition Toolkit is a work in progress and consists of the following documents developed by the work group:

The FAQ’s are intended to support evidenced informed practice and foster discussion. These questions were developed by the working group and further informed by a call for questions to all OT’s in the WRHA. We are posting a few answers at a time and encourage you to monitor the site for the additional answers. Answers are based on the opinions of the author team and supporting literature. While each answer has supporting literature referenced, practically, all questions could not have an extensive literature review. Please continue to access literature to further explore topics of interest to you. We hope you find the Q and A’s helpful and invite you to generate more questions with answers, and or expand answers, preferably supported by the literature.
