St. Mary's QuickCare Clinic to close

WINNIPEG - The lease for the QuickCare Clinic on St. Mary’s Rd. will not be renewed at the end of January, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) announced today. The closure will stabilize services and improve access to care at the remaining QuickCare Clinics across Winnipeg.

Each staff member from the St. Mary’s location will be redeployed to other Quick Care Clinic locations.

“Redeploying staff to the remaining five QuickCare Clinic locations will stabilize staffing for Winnipeggers who need access to non-urgent health services in their communities” said Jeanette Edwards, regional director of primary health care for the WRHA.

This shift will help address the rotating closures at Winnipeg QuickCare Clinics that resulted from challenges related to staff vacancies and provide all community residents a reliable, non-urgent health service outside of regular clinic hours.

Community residents will continue to have access to non-urgent services at all five QuickCare Clinics: 620 Dakota St., 104-930 Jefferson Ave., 363 McGregor St., 3250 Portage Ave. and 170-115 Vermillion Rd.

Both the Vermillion Rd. and Dakota Ave. locations provide service in French.
“It has been clear for some time that a change needed to be made in order to best serve Winnipeggers accessing QuickCare Clinics,” said Edwards. “It has been challenging to recruit sufficient numbers of nurse practitioners to staff six clinics which has resulted in closures and inconsistency of access. When the lease came up for renewal the decision to move towards closing this location now was practical from a property management perspective.”

QuickCare Clinics are staffed by a team of nurses, nurse practitioners and administrative personnel who provide non-urgent health services to patients at five QuickCare Clinics across the city. Services can be accessed by phoning ahead or walking-into any of the five locations.

The last day of clinics at the St. Mary’s location will be January 27, 2017.
