HSC Adult Emergency Department open during construction

Immediate changes taking place along William Avenue

Effective immediately, visitors to Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg's (HSC's) Adult Emergency Department will need to revise the way they enter the department from William Avenue.

"With the exciting growth and expansion around the hospital, patients and visitors will see construction safety barricading in front of the Adult Emergency Department," said Adam Topp, HSC Chief Operating Officer. "The drop off and pedestrian entrances are changed slightly during this time, but individuals can still receive care and emergency services will not be affected."

As part of ongoing construction, William Avenue is reduced to two lanes of traffic in most areas near HSC. However, the changes that will most affect the public are occurring at the entrance to HSC's Adult Emergency Department including:

Emergency Department patient drop-off loop on William Avenue

The patient drop-off driveway on the south side of William Avenue is closed to vehicle traffic, except ambulances and police cars. As a result, four spaces on the street along the south side of William Avenue are available for temporary patient drop-off.

Walkway

A covered, temporary walkway from William Avenue to a temporary entrance to the Adult Emergency Department has been installed for pedestrians.

Parking

Metered parking on the south side of William Avenue in front of Adult Emergency has been removed and replaced with four temporary drop-off spaces. Patients and visitors are encouraged to park in the William Avenue Parkade.

The Children's Emergency Department, William Avenue Parkade and 700 William Avenue Entrance and 700 William Avenue patient drop-off loop are not affected by these changes.

In addition, HSC's Admitting/Patient Registration Department will be moving from the 820 Sherbrook Street entrance, to the 700 William Avenue Entrance, (Purple Bear Zone, Level 1) effective Monday, March 19. Volunteers will be available to help direct patients and make this transition as easy as possible for everyone.
