Mental Health Promotion & Prevention
Mental health promotion is about maximizing the mental health and wellbeing of individuals, families, organizations and communities throughout the life cycle.
Mental health is the capacity of each of us to feel, think and act in ways that enhance our ability to enjoy life and deal with the challenges we face. It is about finding balance in all aspects of your life: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Mental health problems are experienced by approximately 20 % of the Canadian population sometime during their life. These mental health problems are associated with increased health costs, reduced productivity in schools, workplaces and home and missed life opportunities. The WRHA with community partners, is leading in the development of a Mental Health Literacy Plan, a Suicide Prevention Strategy and a broad Mental Health Promotion and Illness Prevention Strategy.
