Dr. John Wade, Chair of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority's Board of Directors announced today that Arlene Wilgosh has been chosen to be the next WRHA President and Chief Executive Officer.

"Ms. Wilgosh was chosen following a national search that was led by an executive recruitment firm," Dr. Wade said. "We are very lucky to have someone of her calibre fill this post."

Ms. Wilgosh currently is Deputy Minister of Health for the province, a position she has held for five years, making her the most senior (longest-serving) provincial Deputy Minister of Health.

She serves on the board of directors with the Mental Health Commission of Canada, the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) and the Manitoba Health Research Council. She also serves as the Chair of both the Manitoba Nursing Advisory Council and Diagnostic Services of Manitoba (DSM).

Ms. Wilgosh, who has spent her entire life in Manitoba, started her career as a staff nurse at Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre before moving to the Victoria General Hospital where she held various direct care and leadership roles in the Intensive Care and Emergency Departments for 13 years. After that she took up various executive positions with the Red River Valley Health District, the Regional Health Authorities of Manitoba and finally with Manitoba Health.

Ms. Wilgosh assumes her new position next month (March 22nd). Dr. Brian Postl, the current President and CEO of the region announced his retirement from the position earlier this year. He will remain with the region over the next few months to assist Ms. Wilgosh through the transition period.
