Safe Food Handling

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Nutrition and Food Services (WRHA, NFS) are committed to providing safe nutritious meals to patients and residents. The Regional Distribution Facility (RDF) provides centralized assembly and distribution to eight WRHA sites, Meals on Wheels and congregate meal programs. WRHA, NFS sites and the RDF comply will all health inspection standards. The employees that handle food are trained by qualified personnel and require a valid Food Handler’s Certificate.

WRHA, NFS sites apply a preventative approach to food safety by adopting an infrastructure that is guided by hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP). Temperature is a primary system critical control point.  Continuous temperature monitoring during all stages of food handling occurs to ensure product quality and safety.  Sanitation and handling practices are designed to prevent cross-contamination of physical, biological, chemical and allergenic hazards. If product safety has been compromised at the manufacture or distributor level an established product recall procedure is followed to remove unsafe product from service.
