Medical Geneticist

The Genetics and Metabolism program is seeking to recruit an academic Medical Geneticist and/or Metabolic Disease Specialist. Certification in either Medical Genetics by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or in Clinical Biochemical Genetics by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists is required. Candidates with equivalent training will also be considered. Applicants must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.  The successful candidate, depending on interests and expertise, will primarily work in the clinical realm, but can expect flexibility with respect to amount of protected time for research and the time, if any, devoted to metabolic or general genetics services.

The Genetics and Metabolism program provides services to over 5,000 patients annually through clinics and in-patient consultations covering all aspects or genetics care including general genetics, prenatal diagnosis, metabolic disease, and cancer. The program offers a unique and exciting academic environment. The Medical Genetics Training Program is fully accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Our center is also accredited by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists for training in Molecular genetics and cytogenetics. Our program has close collaboration with the basic science Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics providing ample research opportunities. An accredited Graduate Program for Genetic Counseling has been established with the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics.  Compensation is derived from fee-for-service income as well as an annual supplementary payment as per Doctor's Manitoba agreement.

The Department of Pediatrics and Child Health, University of Manitoba, comprises over 90 geographical full-time physicians representing pediatrics and its subspecialties. The Department offers a unique and exciting academic environment and works in close affiliation with the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba.
