QUALIFICATIONS

(a) Must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba

(b) CCFP or other relevant postgraduate training is preferred

(c) Have and maintain liability/malpractice coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent coverage with an insurance carrier satisfactory to the WRHA.

Position Title: Clinical Assessment Unit Physician

Location: Grace Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, St-Boniface Hospital

Responsibilities: The purpose of the CAU is to provide quality care to the adult patient who requires a short stay (12-36 hours) for the purpose of treatment or investigation or for observation prior to transfer to a community hospital site. The CAU physician would admit patients to their units, primarily from the Emergency Department. Responsibilities would include admission histories, daily rounds, procedures as indicated, involvement in multidisciplinary rounds, and planning of discharge home or transfer to a Community Hospital bed (sub-acute, or TCU) or Acute hospital bed.

The Clinical Assessment Unit physician (CAU) shall be on site from 0900 hours to 1700 hours and will manage between 10 and 15 patients. Seven (7) consecutive shifts shall normally be worked in a rotation, and after-hours care shall be provided by each CAU Physician taking call from 17:00 to 09:00.

 

Position Title: Hospitalists

Location: Grace Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, St-Boniface Hospital

Responsibilities: The Hospitalist would work as part of a multidisciplinary team to help provide medical coverage to our inpatient population. Hospitalists would admit patients to  their  units,  primarily  from  the  Emergency  Department.  

Responsibilities  would include  admission  histories,  daily rounds,  procedures as indicated,  involvement  in multidisciplinary rounds, and discharge planning.  Hospitalists would be supported by onsite internal medicine consult team as well as other specialists as required. One of the units at St-Boniface will have a FM residency training role in the future.

The Hospitalist shall be on site during the day and will manage between 24 and 30 patients. Fourteen (14) consecutive shifts shall normally be worked in a rotation, and after-hours care shall be provided by each Hospitalist taking call on his/her own patients from 17:00 to 22:00.

 

Position Title: House Medical Office (HMO)

Location: Misericordia Health Centre

Responsibilities:  The  House  Medical  Officer  would  provide  medical  coverage  to inpatient surgical (ophthalmology and dentistry) and medical (Misericordia Place PCH) populations,  and  to  patients  experiencing  medical  urgencies  while  undergoing investigation or treatment at the site. The HMO would be responsible for assessing, treating and referring incoming eye patients. The HMO would be schedule in shifts to provide in-house coverage.
