Family Physician - Clinical Assessment Unit (CAU)

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Family Medicine & Internal Medicine Programs are seeking family physicians for the Clinical Assessment Units at the Grace and St. Boniface Hospitals. 

The purpose of the CAU is to provide quality care to the adult patient who requires a short stay (24-48 hours) for the purpose of treatment or investigation or for observation prior to transfer to a community hospital site. The CAU physician would admit patients to their units, primarily from the Emergency Department. Responsibilities would include admission histories, daily rounds, procedures as indicated, involvement in multidisciplinary rounds, and planning of discharge home or transfer to a Community Hospital bed (sub-acute, or TCU) or Acute hospital bed.

The Clinical Assessment Unit physician (CAU) shall be on site from 0900 hours to 1700 hours and will manage between 10 and 12 patients. Seven (7) consecutive shifts shall normally be worked in a rotation, and after-hours care shall be provided by each CAU Physician taking call from 17:00 to 09:00.

Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible for licensure and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM)
  • CCFP or other relevant postgraduate training is preferrerd.
  • have and maintain liability/malpractice coverage with CMPA or equivalent coverage with an insurance carrier satisfactory to the WRHA.
