Cardiac Surgeon

The Department of Surgery at the University of Manitoba and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Cardiac Sciences Program are pursuing applications for the position of Academic Cardiac Surgeon.  The applicant should be a senior-level surgeon with a wide/large experience in all aspects of cardiac surgery, mechanical circulatory support as well as dedicated clinical and research expertise in the surgical treatment of diseases of the aorta (including but not limited to: ascending aorta, aortic arch, descending thoracic aorta and thoracoabdominal aortic surgery and aortic valve repair).  In addition, a strong background in pedagogy is desired.

The Section of Cardiac Surgery is comprised of 7 surgeons, including 2 full time intensivist/cardiac surgeons. The University of Manitoba has a successful cardiac surgery residency program with a longstanding tradition of graduating Canadian cardiac surgeons. The WRHA Cardiac Centre at St. Boniface Hospital is one of the high volume cardiac centre and has scored among the best in the country for all performance indicators.

The successful candidate would be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (or higher depending on current academic rank) in the Rady Faculty of Health Science, Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba.  The successful candidate should also be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.  Compensation is derived from fee-for-service-income.  Physicians may be eligible for a recruitment incentive.  Contact physicianrecruitment@wrha.mb.ca for further information.

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Cardiac Sciences Program performs approximately 1000 cases per year with a rich mix of emergent and elective cardiac surgery including revascularization, valve replacement and repair, aortic and transcatheter vascular and valve therapies, mechanical circulatory support including implantable VADs and minimally invasive programs. Our program also has a high level of expertise in cardiac perioperative and critical care medicine further contributing the best results for short term CABG outcomes nationally (https://www.cihi.ca/sites/default/files/document/cardiac-care-quality-indicators-report-en-web.pdf).
