
Dr. Brian D. Postl
Dr. Brian Postl is a graduate of the University of Manitoba where he achieved Royal College Fellowships in community medicine and pediatrics. He has practiced these specialties in rural and northern areas of Manitoba and the Northwest Territories. He is currently President and CEO of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, a position he has held since 1999.
In July of 2005, the Government of Canada appointed Dr. Postl as Federal Advisor on Wait Times, a position that required him to work with the federal, provincial and territorial governments in order to meet the requirements of the September 2004 First Minister's Accord. His final report was released in July 2006.
Dr. Postl has been head of the Departments of Pediatrics and Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba.
He serves on a number of national boards and committees in various capacities. He is currently the Chair of the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF), Vice-Chair of the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and member of Canada Health Infoway.
Dr. Postl has published widely on a variety of topics, but with a special focus on the health of residents in rural and isolated northern native communities and circumpolar health. Clinical involvement continues through the Children's Hospital Northern Referral and Medical clinics, and as visiting pediatrician to Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, Grand Rapids and Easterville, Manitoba.
