Income Quintile Maps                                                                                              (Quintiles means to divide a population into 5 equal parts)

The Winnipeg Health Region is typically divided geographically into 12 Community Areas (CAs) and 25 Neighbourhood Clusters (NCs).  At the same time, Winnipeg Health Region residents are often grouped into ‘income quintiles’ (5 income levels each containing approximately 20% of the population) for the analysis of health and social information.  Census data provides average household incomes within ‘dissemination areas’ (DAs) which are small geographic areas, smaller than neighbourhoods, specified by Stats Canada for census data collection. The DAs are ranked from lowest to highest income and rolled up into 5 income quintile groups.  These maps present the location of the income quintile groups overlaid onto the more familiar CA and NC geographies.  The purpose of these maps is to facilitate health equity action planning at the local level in the Winnipeg Health Region.
